Linux Engineer

  • £35000 - £45000 per annum + 25 days holiday

Location – Cardiff (commutable from Cardiff, Swansea and Newport)

Job Role – Linux Engineer

Salary and Benefits – £35,000 to £45,000 + 25 days holiday

Working Hours – 37.5 Hours, flexible start times between 8AM to 10AM

If you come from a background in Linux engineering or System Administration, this is a great opportunity for you to branch out and work in a versatile and busy software development environment. This is a chance for you to strengthen your technical ability, whilst making the most of your creative flair.

List of duties and relevant experience includes;

-Linux (or UNIX) system administration – Centos, Red Hat, Ubuntu

-Good bash shell scripting

-Cloud Computing experience – AWS (EC2, RDS, S3 etc) and/or Google Cloud

-Web server administration – primarily Apache

-Database administration – Postgres & MySQL

-E-mail server administration – Postfix/Cyrus, GSuite

-Server monitoring software

-Firewalls – iptables, AWS security groups etc

-Load Balancing

-Building software from source packages

-DNS (bind & Route53)

-SSL

-Familiarity with backup procedures and best practice

-LAN/WAN routing

-Packet tracing using tcpdump / wireshark

-Software version control systems – RCS, CVS, SVN, Git, Bamboo

-Familiarity with software release processes – dev-test-live

Network administration covering:

-Cisco IOS

– Cisco switch management

– Cisco PIX/ASA management

– Cisco IPSEC based VPNs

There is circa 16 people in the development unit – that is due to grow by 8 over the next 12 months, due to a successful year in sales and delivery. As the team matures, progression opportunities will certainly make themselves available to hard working individuals; senior, team lead and management positions are expected to emerge as a result of expansion.

Whilst there are preferred core hours of work, you will be given the flexibility should you need it, to start anytime between 8AM to 10AM.
