Bristol recruiter has ‘Perfect Candidate’ entered in Grand National

DIRECTORS at a Bristol recruitment firm are hoping they’ve found the “perfect candidate” to win this weekend’s Grand National – as they have a horse entered by that very name.

Perfect Candidate is owned by city centre-based ISL Recruitment and is stabled at Fergal O’Brien Racing in Gloucestershire.

More than half of ISL’s 25 employees are travelling to Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool on Saturday as it hosts the 170th Grand National, which will see 40 runners take on the daunting obstacle of 30 fences over the course of four and a half miles.

Perfect Candidate, a 10-year-old bay gelding who will be ridden by jockey Paddy Brennan, was named this week as one of the horses to go to post at current odds of 50/1. The winner of the race could net around half a million pounds.

Henry said: “We bought Perfect Candidate in 2012 and have been lucky enough to see him race and win quite a few times, but on the run up to last year’s National he was just pipped to post and came 42nd in the listing which meant he didn’t run.

“So we’re thrilled to have him entered and are looking forward to being there with so many of our team – who are equally excited to have him taking part.

“Perfect Candidate is a great horse and his part in ISL sums up our ethos – play to win but have a good time while you do.”

Fergal O’Brien said: “This is the world’s greatest steeplechase and all eyes will be on Aintree this weekend. Perfect Candidate is a fine horse and we’re all looking forward to him stretching his legs on Saturday.”

For those who can’t make it to Aintree in person, The National is on ITV at 5.15pm.
